"Welcome to the
Institute for Sustainability's
e-newsletter"
Peter Head, Chair of the Institute for Sustainability
Board
of Trustees
2010 has been a busy year for the Institute for Sustainability as we transition from being a start up to a fully operational organisation.
The start of the year saw us move into our own office space
at 1 Heron Quay in Canary Wharf, at the heart of the Thames Gateway
where many
of our practical research projects and demonstrators will take place.
Our
thanks to Canary Wharf Group for donating the space.
We have recently welcomed a Delivery Director to the
Institute's senior management team. Dr
Neil Johnston has joined Institute Chief Executive Ian Short and
Director for Research and Business Development Ed Metcalfe.
Neil previously worked for Anglian Water Group where he was Director of
Strategy and Managing Director of
a subsidiary company. He has also worked as an Associate Director
for the Centre for Sustainable Engineering.
A number of Institute projects are underway and making progress, which you can read more about in this newsletter. Updates include the latest on work to identify and deliver a UK exemplar for sustainable utilities infrastructure in the Lower Lea Valley, and on our programme (FLASH) to connect SMEs with the opportunities presented by the move towards a more sustainable built environment.
We have also continued to build international relationships and I have just returned from London Week at Shanghai Expo where the Institute hosted two events in association with a number of UK and Chinese partners as part of London Week. Click here to read more.
