"Welcome to the
Thames Gateway
Institute for Sustainability's
second quarterly enewsletter"
Professor Malcolm Grant, Provost of UCL and Chair of the Shadow Board of Thames Gateway Institute for Sustainability.
In this issue we will highlight some recent activity including the set up of an SME support programme, progress on our eco-retrofit programme, a workshop to identify ways of financing large scale retrofit and a profile of our partner Barking Riverside Ltd.
The response to our search for a permanent Board has been excellent. We will be announcing our high calibre line up in the next few weeks and look forward to working with them to shape our future agenda. I will step down as our Interim Chair, but will remain on the Board as a Trustee; we will be appointing an influential private sector figure as our new Chair.
Our membership is going from strength to strength. Recent new members include GE, IBM, Marks and Spencer, the National Physical Laboratory, Siemens and CIRIA.
We now have a team of 14 staff, (employees, secondees and contractors), based at our London office at 250 Euston Rd, and at our Dartford office which is established jointly with the Sustainable Construction Academy.
Our research and demonstration activity is progressing well with our three main programmes all making significant advances in the last quarter. These programmes are:
- Eco-retrofit
- London 2012 Learning Legacy
- Sustainable Utilities Infrastructure
Our programme to support SMEs in London and the South East has developed considerably. We are in the process of setting up a series of networks, events and support tools to provide SMEs with practical learning from our research and demonstration projects. Our aim is to share our wealth of knowledge with businesses to enable them to grow. More information about this project is featured in this issue.
I hope you enjoy reading our newsletter.
