Retrofit for the Future projectsThis innovative project was developed by the Institute for Sustainability, working with the Technology Strategy Board. The principle aim is to support a step change in the built environment industry by engaging London Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) with the commercial potential of low carbon building and retrofit. Through the Institute’s strategic partnership with the Technology Strategy Board businesses can access learning from the UK’s leading retrofit demonstrator projects.

Academic partners who are also contributing match funding to the project are the University of Greenwich, University College London, University of East London and London South Bank University.

Working with trade and professional bodies including the Royal Institute of British Architects, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Federation of Master Builders, the project provides information and support to members as well as access to the most recent and credible analysis and industry best practice. This includes exclusive site visits to the Technology Strategy Board’s Retrofit for the Future exemplars and ‘ask the expert’ workshops.

As part of FLASH, the Institute has produced a series of 'Building Opportunities for Business' Retrofit Guides. Written by leading industry experts, the guides cover topics including retrofit planning and resource efficiency as well as the key Government incentive schemes including Green Deal, Feed-in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive.
