Dartford River Crossing
The transport infrastructure within the Thames Gateway is critical to the rest of the country. The Dartford River Crossing (DRC) is a complex traffic system at the heart of the Gateway.
It comprises of two tunnels and a bridge spanning the Thames with over 141,000 vehicles using the crossing each day. The toll charges vary with type of vehicle and time of day. At peak times, the need for drivers to find more than one coin may increase delays.

The Institute for Sustainability and South East of England Development Agency commissioned the Centre for Transport Studies, Imperial College to carry out an 'Exploratory Study of Traffic Management Options for the DRC, to develop a detailed understanding of how best to deploy existing and emerging pollution and traffic data monitoring and modeling technology to address current and future challenges involved in operating the DRC.
